Director – Kim Piggins –

Kim and her two daughters, Kendall and Madison, relocated to the Wood River Valley and PCBW from San Diego, California on New Year’s Day 2010. Along with her deep Christian faith, Kim brings with her a strong background in Preschool leadership and teaching from the Baldwin Academy and Francis Parker School in San Diego, California. Over her 20+ years of experience, she has worked in virtually every capacity with every age group in the Preschool/Elementary School setting….Aide, Pre-K Teacher. Kindergarten Teacher, Curriculum Specialist, Office Manager, Administrative Assistant, Reading Resource Teacher, Tutor, and Director. She moved over to the Administration side of Education in 2005 and has thoroughly enjoyed combining her love of children, calling to teach, and business/organizational skills in the School Office environment. Kim and her girls are loving the mountain lifestyle with the hiking, biking, skiing, and rafting and are filled with gratitude that they get to call Big Wood School their “home away from home”!


Sharks Pre-K Teacher – Susan Chizum –

Susan started at Big Wood School in 2007, teaching the two-year-old Silly Monkey class. In 2015 she switched to the Sharks Pre-K class and has revolutionized it! Susan has a passion for teaching and enjoys incorporating various disciplines, creating a diverse educational experience, and pursuing continuing education any chance she gets. After graduating from the University of Washington in 2005, with a BA in Sociology, she moved to the Valley and has never looked back. When Susan is not working, she loves spending time with her husband Eric, and their son Ethan. They love to spend time outside riding bikes, hiking and camping! After two years of receiving Bronze Teacher of the Year, in 2020, Susan was awarded Best of the Valley – Gold – for Teacher of the Year.

Jen received her BA in Sociology from Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. She later obtained her teaching credential from Loyola Marymount in California. She taught kindergarten for 10 years in California then relocated to the Wood River Valley in 2011. Jen substituted around the valley for a few years and began working at Big Wood in 2015 as an assistant to the Pre- K classes. She is married and has two children Bridgette and Peter. When she is not at Big Wood she enjoys Nordic skiing, ice skating and gardening!

Tigers Pre-K Teacher – Teagen Palmer–

This is Miss Teagen’s second year at Big Wood School. She is currently the lead Pre-K teacher for the Tiger class. Teagen was born and raised in Ketchum and is the youngest of three siblings. She graduated from the University of Utah as a Division I athlete on the ski team and obtained her certificate for being an K-8 Teacher. When she is not teaching, you can find her in the mountains hiking, biking, skiing and spending time with family and friends! She considers herself lucky to be part of the Big Wood School and be able to work with an amazing group of dedicated educators!

Owls Pre-K Teacher and After School Club – Ali Perrapato –

Ali has been a Pre-K teacher at Big Wood for the last 14 years and has also served on our fundraising committee for many years. She graduated in 2007 from the University of Idaho with her teaching degree. She absolutely loves our community and everything it has to offer! Teaching is truly her passion and joy! She feels blessed to call Big Wood School her home and have her two young boys happily attend here as well. 

This is Lusi’s 5th year working at Big Wood School. She is the lead for the after school program and Fun Fridays. She is also the aid for Miss Ali’s Owls and Miss Beth’s Bears. Even though this year has been a little tricky, she is thankful to be a part of the Big Wood School. Outside of school she enjoys activities with her two children, Aliah, 8, and Jacob, 6. She is also a part time student at College of Southern Idaho.

Bears Three Year Old Class Teacher – Beth Inouye –

Miss Beth received her BA in English from the University of Washington and did her post-baccalaureate work in Elementary Education. Beth taught Kindergarten, First and Second grades in Princeton, New Jersey; Richland, Washington; and Morgan Hill, California. She retired from public school teaching and moved to Sun Valley in 2015. In fall of 2017 she started working at Big Wood School. Beth has been married to her husband Mark for 37 years and they have 3 adult children whom they adore! Her favorite season is winter, because she loves snow and alpine skiing. She is currently obsessed with skate skiing which she is determined to master! In summer and fall she loves to hike and ride her bike. She also enjoys reading, drinking coffee, and playing games (especially with her kids, these days on Zoom). But her favorite thing of all is just to be outside, in any season and any weather!

Kind Cats Three Year Old Class Teacher – Nicole Williams –

Nicole joined the Big Wood team in 2015 and led the Silly Monkeys, the young two’s group, before moving up to the three year old, Kind Cats. She has a passion for early childhood education and this age group in particular. Nicole received her bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and Early Childhood Education from Cal State Northridge. When Nicole is not at BWS, she is out having fun with her husband, Jim and three lovely ladies, ranging from college to Elementary school. She enjoys exploring new places and raising her children, chickens, cats, dogs, and a rabbit. Nicole feels incredibly blessed to work at BWS and loves when people stop to say hello, either in the classroom or around town.

Brooke is Miss Nicole’s aide in the Kind Cats. She has worked at Big Wood for 3 amazing years, and her 9 year old daughter is a Big Wood grad. She grew up in Jackson Hole, with the Tetons and the national parks as her backyard. She loves being on the lake, outside in the mountains, cooking, reading a good book or anything that includes fun with her friends and family. She loves that every day is different and filled with love, laughter, learning and silliness at Big Wood!

Ladybugs Three Year Old Class Teacher – Linley Fraser –

Miss Linley moved to the valley in 2001 after the completion of her Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies from Prescott College. She grew up in Lynchburg, Virginia and took many ski trips with her family, which is why she was drawn to the Sun Valley area. Linley came to Big Wood Preschool in 2006 and immediately knew she had found her calling. She continued her education working towards a Masters in Elementary Education. She currently teaches the Ladybug Class and loves everyday she gets to spend with all their wonderful personalities. Linley and her husband Cam have two awesome kids, Hayes (11) and Jennings (9). They like to spend their time doing anything outside! They love to ski during the winter and camp during the summer. In her 16 years of teaching, she has clearly found her passion. Every day she spends teaching is filled with love, exploration, and magic!

Cierra is Miss Linley’s Ladybugs’ aid. Prior to working with Miss Linley, she was the extended learning coordinator for first through fourth grade. She has worked at Big Wood School for 3 years! She has tons of experience with kids of all ages. One of her favorite things about working here is that we all share the same passion for children and enjoy making learning so much fun! She is also a college student majoring in criminal justice. She is the youngest child in her family, 6 years younger than her older brother. She looks forward to working with your children!

Bumblebees Two Year Old Class Teacher – Augusta Walker –

Augusta, Miss Guta, is originally from Brazil where she earned degrees in early childhood education as well as a social service. After graduating, she worked for a state childhood service program in Brazil. She and her sisters moved to Sun Valley in 2001, and Augusta worked for the Sun Valley Company and then for a preschool called G-day Care in Hailey. 
Miss Guta joined the Big Wood team in 2015 and now lead the Bumblebees. Guta; her husband, Jon; and daughter, Valentina (8), love the outdoors. They enjoy snowboarding, skiing, and ice skating all winter long. When Summer comes, you can see her in all the outdoor events, riding her bike, swimming, hiking and camping with her family and friends. Every summer she tries to spend a month in Brazil in order to visit family and keep her daughter practicing her Portuguese. Miss Guta loves her little bumblebees. With the energy she gets from them, she enjoys taking them on field trips every week, dressing up silly, and doing fun interactive projects.

Witchuta McCann is the assistant teacher for the Bumblebees class. She is a Thailand native who moved to America in 2005. In Thailand, she graduated from Silpakorn University with a degree in Architecture. She’s been married to her husband, Galen, for 13 years. In 2008, they moved to Idaho and decided to start their family here. They have 2 children, Mauricio, a playful 10 years old boy, and Yada, a lovely 6 year old girl. This is her third year working at Big Wood School. Before she started working here, she worked for Playschool Kids Camp and Kindercare at the Sun Valley Resort for 11 years. She enjoys working with children, especially aged 2 to 5. She loves their imagination, curiosity and excitement. It always makes her smile to see how excited they are about the new things they learned. She loves arts and crafts, and believes imagination and art are very important for young children’s development. She believes Big Wood School gives her an opportunity to do this. She is so excited to BEE a part of your children’s journey.

Little Llamas 18 Month Old Class Teacher – Nora Roebuck –

Originally from Lima, Peru Miss Nora moved to the Wood River Valley 20 years ago. She can often be heard saying, “I love working with children!” Nora has worked with students of all ages, from middle school to high school to Kindergarten and nursery. Currently, she is the Lead in the Little Llamas, one of our 2 years old classes. Her passion for working with children started when she used to help her mother in her Kindergarten class. As a child, she saw her mom’s dedication as a teacher and principal and always dreamed of becoming a teacher herself. Although she changed careers throughout the years, she is glad she decided to return to teaching. Being bilingual has also been a benefit for her in the classroom because she thoroughly enjoys singing the Spanish songs she sang as a child with her Little Llamas…and they love it!

Bertha has been working at Big Wood School since 2019, and living in the Wood River Valley for over a decade. She loves reading and working with the little ones. Her and her husband have 2 daughters, Valentina and Anika, that currently attend Big Wood. She studied nursing and computer engineering, and helping others is her passion.

Chipmunks Two Year Old Class Teacher – Candace Stonebraker –

Miss Candace has been a teacher at Big Wood School since 2010. She currently is the Lead Teacher of the 18 months – 2 year olds in the Chipmunks class. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement Area. Candace and her husband moved to Idaho from Tennessee in 2008. Prior to that, she retired from teaching in Tennessee with 30 years of service, with 23 of those years teaching Kindergarten. She says being a teacher keeps her young and she loves to watch her little ones learn and grow! She also enjoys hiking, hanging out with her grandsons, and spending time with family and friends. One of her favorite things about our school is that she gets to introduce Bible Lessons to our little ones and relate them to their lives.

Fernanda is originally from São Paulo, Brazil. It was there that she received her teaching credential in Physical Education. After finishing her education, she got married and moved to Switzerland for almost 9 years. In Switzerland, she worked as a kindergarten aid, and later as a Physical Education teacher to kids aged 3 to 12 years old in an International School. During her time in Switzerland, she had two children. Her husband, R.J. McLaughlin, grew up in Ketchum. So, they were excited when they had the opportunity to move to the Wood River Valley in 2019. She loves outdoor activities such as surfing in the summer and skiing in the winter. Her daughter, Agnes and son, Mateo, are both attending Big Wood School. They feel very blessed to be part of this wonderful community. She loves kids and really enjoys teaching them! They sure have lots of fun together.
